Engineering Associate 2
Description
Engineering position in the Gas System Planning area. Generates, maintains and updates computer-based flow analysis model of the CPS Energy gas distribution and transmission facilities. Provides operational parameters to Gas Operations for projects and seasonal changes in gas demand. Conducts all types of engineering analysis.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Updates customer load data and validates computer-based flow analysis model of the CPS Energy gas systems manually and with extracts from GIS mapping system
- Updates facilities in computer-based flow analysis model of the CPS Energy gas systems manually and with extracts from GIS mapping system
- Provides technical support to other sections setting design criteria for gas network operation, expansion and/or modifications
- Provides technical support to other sections relative to gas availability and cost estimates for system growth and customer requests
- Assists in the development of the 10+ year gas long range, growth forecasting and reliability plan including GIS based maps
- Identifies gas systems deficiency (low pressure area location) and plan improvements for peak loads
- Forecasts gas network response to seasonal changes of gas demand and creates operation plan for peak loads
- Conducts engineering analysis of gas systems to identify projects for the Gas Systems Expansion, Renewal, and Reliability
- Oversees and maintains software contracts relative to the flow analysis
- Maintains and improves internal customer relationships with gas construction, operations and purchasing
- Maintains and improves external customer relationships with vendors, industry peers and CPS Energy customers
- Reviews new plats and proposes changes to existing plats relating to gas easements
- Maintains list of pressure recording device locations
- Attends and contributes at customer preliminary utility meetings
- Attends seminars, continuing education opportunities for professional development
- Exhibits the highest level of engineering judgment/technical expertise and may include limited supervisor responsibilities
- Coaches and mentors junior engineers
- Develops and updates design, construction, operation and maintenance standards process and procedures for the gas business unit
- Signs and seals required own engineering work and engineering work by staff under his/her oversight
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Ability to handle complex assignments, be a self-starter, be able to meet goals and deadlines on own initiative with minimum supervision

- Ability to travel occasionally, to off-site work, to seminars, manufacturing plant inspections, etc.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling
